All those Campaign Signs

Hi folks! Seems just like yesterday that campaign folks left this neck of the woods after the last election. Well THEY'RE BACK! Funny how time can pass so quick while you're out takin care of business. I don't tend to take much notice of things out there in the greater world but it's kinda tough to ignore completely when folks start puttin up campaign signs all along roads and paths throughout the countryside hereabouts.
Yeah them folks been pretty dern busy staking signs just about everywhere a body might pass by. Seems theyse intent on claiming every bit of visual real estate there is for one candidate or another. Must put them all up at night though 'cause I ain't seen hide nor hair of any of 'em. Either that or theyse perfected some sort of stealth tech 'cause there seems to be a new sign plopped down someplace every time I turn around. One of them even put a sign down at the end of the driveway the other day. Took it down of course. I'm pretty non-political. Prefer to keep my feelins on that sort of thing to myself, at least until I get inside the voting booth.
Never been much for goin to rallies or talkin politics. Daddy used to say that when you talk politics with friends you usually end up with fewer friends. Suppose that makes sense... ain't much more things that will rile folks up like talkin politics... 'cept maybe religion... or sports... Say what you will but those three things seem to breed deep seated feelins in most folks. I know I think the Bulls are the best team in baseball even if they are just a single A farm team. Magnify that by a thousand and I guess that's how folks feel about their brand of politics and religion.
Can't say I have much room for hate speech though. Seems like folks should be able to discuss their differences in a nice peaceable way without threats and violence. Reverend Sumners used to say "If you leaven the bread mix with hate all you get is sour dough." He always did seem to have a way with words. And talkin about words, I gotta say, I'm kinda afraid for the press folks who cover some of them rallies and stuff where people say they're dishonest when all theyse doin is telling the truth about what's goin on. Seems like if you start talkin about creating laws intended to muzzle the press, what you's really talkin about changin is one of the basic freedoms we all enjoy...
Wow! Don't know where that came from. I walked right into violating one of my own rules. Guess it's just a sign of the times when even a simple farmer like myself can get carried away... Well anyways... I was tellin you about them signs. Seems they's been put all over the place by campaign workers and such. Probably a lot of volunteers. Can't be from around here for the most part. Made them signs out of some sort of thick mylar... plastic by any other name... well really a polyester film made from stretched polyethylene terephthalate... ah yeah but you folks don't really what to know about that...
Well anyways, like I was saying, those folks must not be from around here else they never would have made them signs from mylar. That was just like waving a plastic popsicle in front of any Naugas that happened to wanderin loose. Didn't take too long before most of them signs was eaten to some extent or another. 'Cept for one fella's. Seems his signs were made of plywood and paint. Guess sometimes it just pays to know somethin about the area you're tryin to work in.
Ah well... at least it only happens once every four years or so... 'Til next time. Jon
