The original version of A Simple Song of Freedom was written by Bobby Darin. The original was recorded by Tim Hardin in 1969 and can be found sung by Darin on the 1971 album “Live! At The Desert Inn”.

 

This adaptation drops verses 1 and 3 and makes some changes to verses 2 and 4 from Darin’s original. It also makes a minor change to the chorus and adds three new verses.
