Tax Time!

Hi Folks! Still getting the hang of this blog thing. Easy to get distracted and forget to get online and write something down. This week I've been getting involved with the business and looking over the folks who're doin the taxes for the company and the farm. Whoo boy... I'm sure glad I didn't get involved with that CPA stuff. All that paper and numbers and keeping track of every last detail... I tell you what, them folks are just plumb loco... sitting inside like that all day, goin over other peoples paperwork, trying to make sense of it all. Pretty darn frustratin if you ask me. Never would be able to do it myself what with all them forms and stuff.

I hired a local firm, Taxe & Dermy, a few years back to handle all that stuff for me. It was originally founded by the Taxe brothers, Bill and Arnie, along with Edward Dermy about thirty years or so ago. Good folk, unlike Ed's cousin, Mike Skimr. Ole Mike will rob you blind as soon as say hello to you. Smile the whole time too. Has a sort of oily charm if you know what I mean. 'Specially with the ladies. Don't know what they see in him. Why once he cozied up to Missus Wilson. She was a young widower livin out north of Biggsbee. Had her convinced he could triple her money by investing in one of his "business opportunities". Bunch of junk, that's what they is. This particular time he was selling shares in Aluminium futures. Said it that way too. Alu-min-ni-um. Sounded real British. Maybe that's why Olive... that's Missus Wilson's name... almost fell for it. Ifn her son hadn't done some research on the internet, she probably would have swallowed it whole and lost everything. Smart boy, her son... got a baseball bat and chased Mike a good quarter mile down the road before he let well enough alone. Has a real good swing. I've seen him at the ballpark a few times. Would've left quite an impression on ole Skimr if he'd caught up with him.

Well anyways, like I said I've been busy this past week gettin all the papers and bills and stuff all arranged in a big box for them folks to sort through for the taxes. My filin system may not be exactly the best but everything for the farm goes into a big box and when tax time comes around I just deliver it to Ed or his son Max who started at the firm a couple of years ago. They always seem to shake their heads when they see me comin. Can't say I know why. All the stuff they need is in that box. Might require a little sorting through to find things... but it's all there. They do the company taxes as well. Seem to find that easier for some reason. Something about books and files bein better organized or somethin.

And it's not like I don't keep the stuff in the box clean. When I first started using 'em, I just kept the bills and paperwork over in the corner in a big pile. Well what with the dust and things getting spilled and maybe some mud from a Nauga that happened to get inside, well those papers sometimes just got to be the worse for wear. Nowadays that box keeps everything nice and clean and all in one place. Big improvement I'd say.

Well anyways... guess I better get back to it. 'Til next time. Jon
