A little geneology

Wow. It's amazing what you can come across when you start rummaging around in the attic. I was up there trying to see if I could find anything about the family in some of the boxes that have been up there for years. I've always been fascinated by the family stories that used to be told around the table at the holidays. Sometimes felt like some of the stories were just maybe a little bit of an exaggeration but as I got older I came to realize that they were pretty much spot on. Got me interested in doing a little spelunking through the family tree. I guess my side of the family kinda lost track of some of the other branches except for Daddy's brother and his family. Thought maybe I could find some family secrets or papers squirreled away up there for safe keepin.

Well I found out just how easy it is to get sidetracked with stuff like this. First thing I found was my old set of skates and hockey stick. Boy oh boy they brung back some memories. I remembered how one year I got it in my head to become a hockey star just like them folks up there in the big leagues. Made myself a jersey and everything. Only problem was I was a lousy skater. You wouldn't've thought it since I tended to be good at everything else but for some reason me and ice just didn't seem to get along. No matter how hard and often I tried, I just couldn't seem to get the hang of skatin. Ended up using that hockey stick to hold myself up in order to prevent myself from falling flat on my keester.

Oh I gave a good go of it. Tried hard for the entire winter but, after some simply spectacular falls out there in front of god and everybody, I figured it was probably best ifn I just concentrated on something I stood a better chance of being good at. Course my wounded pride had nothin at all to do with it. I just liked football better that's all. Really ...

Anyway, after that trip down memory lane I opened up a couple of boxes and rummaged around some. Most of the stuff was old keepsakes, scrapbooks and stuff. Spent a goodly amount of time lookin through those. Had some good stuff that I hadn't seen in years. Some things I didn't remember at all. Finally chanced upon an old piece of paper that had a bunch of notes about the family history. I was plumb tickled to find it. I'd run across some other stuff when going through some old papers tucked away in a book in the den but the info was full of gaps. These new notes looked like they'd fill in the gaps pretty good. Well I closed up them boxes and climbed back down to the top floor and got to work. Took me quite awhile to put it all together but I think I've got it right based on what I could figure out. Still don't have a lot of the info I need to really flesh out the family tree but at least I've got things pretty well traced back to where it all started. I think I'll just attach what I've done so far to this blog so you can see for yourself.

Well that's it for today. 'Til next time. Jon
